What is the GeekBox?

The "Geek Box" is an inside joke from Engineering Science students at the University of Toronto. I think it started in the Fall of 2000 but it may date back from earlier:

Whenever someone made an engineering-related joke, they would get a 2 minute penalty in the Geek Box (i.e. the penalty box) and be banished to a corner of the common room. Unfortunately some people started taking this as a compliment. After several individuals had accumulated two-week penalties and continued making bad jokes, the Geek Box lost its penalty status.

However, it has found a new form in this web site.

What is Vinculum?

vinculum [n. pl. vin-cu-lums or vin-cu-la (-l)]
1. Mathematics. A bar drawn over two or more algebraic terms to indicate that they are to be treated as a single term.
2. Anatomy. A ligament that limits the movement of an organ or part.
3. A bond or tie.
4. Skule. Method for EngSci 0T3 and friends to procrastinate using e-mail.
[Latin, bond, tie, from vincre, to tie.]
